Job interviews can feel scary, especially in a second language. The good news is that many questions are similar. If you prepare simple answers, you will feel much more confident.
Here are common questions and easy ways to answer them.
1. Tell me about yourself. Keep it short. Example: “My name is Sara. I am hard-working and friendly. I have experience in cleaning / shop work / caring. I want to work and improve my English.”
2. Why do you want this job? Example: “I want to work and use my skills. I like helping people / working in a team. This job is a good opportunity for me.”
3. What are your strengths? Example: “I am reliable. I always come on time. I am a quick learner and I work well with other people.”
4. What are your weaknesses? Be honest but positive. Example: “My English is still improving, but I study every day and I am not afraid to ask questions.”
5. Do you have any questions for us? Always ask one or two. Examples:
- “What time does the shift start?”
- “Is there training for new staff?”
- “When will I know the result?”
Extra tips:
- Speak slowly and clearly.
- Smile and make eye contact.
- It is okay to say “Sorry, can you repeat that, please?”
- Practise your answers out loud many times.
